Dr L Hodgson was the first Head of Sports Medicine for the Rugby Football League and instigated minimum standards into the game long before many sports considered the implications. Neuropsychological testing was instigated in 2001/2 season, with computerised testing mandated at all levels of the game in 2004. Cardiac screening for all nationally selected players from U14-open age introduced in 2001. Minimum standards of equipment were instigated in 2003, wtih specific roles for physiotherapist and doctors. Sports medicine standards documents were published annually with updates based on evidence based medial strategies. AEDs were mandated pitch side from the 2004 season internationally and within the entire game at all professional levels by 2006.
